Choral training and the four choirs

Belvedere Prep is a ‘Sing-Up’ school and this is evident in our day to day work, be that more formally in one of our choirs, in curriculum music, or during play and lesson transitions throughout the day.

Singing forms the major part of the musicianship strand of the curriculum in years 3-6, where all children learn how to sight sing from a score and develop interval training skills.

We currently have 4 choirs at Belvedere Prep:

First School Choir

Prep School Choir

Chamber Choir

Vocal Ensemble

Each child in the school is involved in either the First School or Prep School choirs and we pride ourselves on making this a compulsory element of the whole school curriculum.

Our two selective choirs have become established amongst the leading children’s choirs in the region. Therefore membership of our Chamber Choir is by a rigorous audition process with re-auditions taking place ever academic year. Our Vocal Ensemble is a select group of no more than 12-16 voices. Membership is by invitation only and is intended to stretch our more advanced singers.

Many members of our selective choirs are also members of the National Children’s Choir of Great Britain and both the Junior Choirs and Choristers of Liverpool Cathedral. We prepare an increasing number of our children for these auditions each year.
