TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS AT BELVEDERE PREP
Our visiting instrumental staff provide an exemplary service to all pupils under their tutelage and we hope that your child gains maximum benefit from learning their chosen instrument or voice. In order to achieve progression, it is vital that you child maintains regular practice routines. Children will be given guidance as to how to practice by their instrumental teacher and the Director of Music. Each child will be provided with a practice notebook which the instrumental teacher will write in during their lesson each week. This will give details of what has been covered in each lesson, with tips and suggestions for practising at home. This practice notebook must be brought to each lesson. Parental support is vital in this regard.
Your child’s instrumental teacher will make contact with you via the e-mail address you supply on the contract reply slip, which you receive when you sign your child up for lessons. This e-mail will give details of how you can establish relevant and necessary communication with your child’s instrumental teacher.
Instrumental lessons will take place during term time on the school premises. Lessons will not be conducted in either the parental or the teacher’s home, unless under exceptional circumstances. In such instances permission must be sought and granted from the Director of Music and the Headmistress.
Instrumental teachers will be happy to advise on purchasing instruments and can give guidance on which model of instrument might be best for your child. Please contact your child’s instrumental teacher for further assistance as necessary.
Instrumental lessons at The Belvedere Preparatory School take place weekly during term time and are delivered by visiting instrumental tutors (engaged by the school on a self-employed basis). Lessons are payable to the relevant instrumental teacher a term in advance.
We invite requests for instrumental lessons from parents with children in Year 2 upwards. We would recommend that Year 2 pupils begin with a 15 minute lesson and then progress to a 30 minute lesson in Years 3-6. There will be opportunities for your child to switch to a longer or shorter lesson if this is suitable and necessary, though changes can be made only after discussion and on recommendation from the instrumental teacher and Director of Music. Changes cannot be accommodated half way through a term as you will appreciate.
Please be aware that it is paramount that payment is made on time, otherwise lessons may be suspended. Suitable payment reminders will be posted out if payment has not been made. If subsequent correspondence regarding payment is needed after reminders have been sent, the matter will be taken up with the Director of Music and the Headmistress.
If, at any time your child wishes to suspend their lessons, please give half a terms notice in writing to the Director of Music, otherwise the following term of lessons will be payable.
If a teacher is absent, the lesson will be made up at a convenient time on the school premises at a suitable point in the term. Where this is not possible, the lesson will be credited or carried over into the next term. Lessons missed through pupil’s non-attendance, such as illness, will be charged for as normal. When a lesson is missed due to a school trip, this will be re-arranged if it is reasonable and feasible to do so (at the discretion of the instrumental teacher and within the constraints of the school timetable).
An invoice for lessons will be sent out to you in advance of the start of each term. Each term will normally consist of 10 lessons, though 12 lessons can be arranged during longer terms.
