WELCOME TO THE SPORT DEPARTMENT
The Belvedere Preparatory School believes that all children should be given the chance to experience a variety of sporting activities in the early years of their life. All children receive high-quality Physical Education lessons, and further have the opportunity to play competitive sport and participate in an extensive range of before school, lunchtime and after school clubs.
First School (Nursery – Year 1) classes receive at least 2 ½ hours of Physical Education each week. This is delivered in a variety of ways: through gymnastic skills such as rolling, jumping and balancing; as well as games which work on basic fundamental skills. A wide selection of equipment is used in all lessons. These lessons take into consideration the EYFS framework, focusing on the ‘Physical Development’ strand. Reception and Year 1 also take part in a block of intensive swimming lessons in the Summer Term. There is a lunchtime club for children who wish to participate in additional sport. This is organised by our Year 6 leaders.
In Prep School (Years 2 & 3), our children participate in a wide range of activities in their PE lessons through modified games. Such activities include: multi-skills; quicksticks hockey; netball; basketball; football; gymnastics; tennis; rounders; athletics; tag rugby; and kwik cricket.
In Years 4, 5 & 6, children participate in a variety of competitions. We recognise the importance of participating in lots of activities throughout the academic year. Such activities include: netball; basketball; football; hockey; tag rugby; gymnastics; swimming; fitness; tennis; athletics; rounders; fencing; kwik cricket; lacrosse; and boxercise.
We also use the impressive Olympic training swimming pool at the Liverpool Aquatics Centre for our swimming lessons. The children also enjoy our Annual School Swimming Gala.
Our school is part of AJIS, the LSSP and IAPS, which all offer our school the chance to enter into a variety of sporting events. We feel that learning how to deal with competition is an important part of children’s development. The children also enjoy taking part in Interschool and Intra-school competitive matches throughout the academic year.
